How much do you move daily? How varied are your movements? For many of us our lifestyles often do not involve a lot of movement or variety of movement.  What does your lifestyle look like?  Could you benefit from finding more ways to move?

Here are some simple tips on how you can find ways each day to increase the amount you move. We hope that to helps you to make change and move more.

Incorporate More Movement into your Daily Routine

  • Getting to and from work.  Could you walk or bike to work?  If you drive or use public transport could you park or get off  further away from your work and walk.
  • Your work day – Walk in your breaks. Have a walking meeting. Use a standing desk. Take regular movement breaks. Always use the stairs when you can
  • Relaxing in the evening – Try sitting on the floor rather than slumping into the couch. Find different postures on the floor. For example crossed leg sitting, or V sitting
  • Before work & after work … can you get up a little earlier and find a way you love to move, Meet up with others and share your movement. It can feel hard after work to find energy to move…but often movement will give you a lift rather that deplete you of energy.
  • Use technology to assist with your regularity & motivation. Set reminders on your phone to get up and move. Record your movement. A common example is the number of steps. Set goals and use technoogy to determine if you reach the goals. Use technology for the convenience of home workouts.
  • Find a little more enjoyment in those mandane chores knowing that you are moving while you complete them. Hanging out the washing , loading and emptying the diswasher, gardening, preparing dinner. These low intensity activities are really important to maintaining movement health.
