The key to keeping well and maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle is moving in many ways and moving regularly.

If your movement is varied the stresses on your body are varied. Moving in a variety of ways will induce change in a wider range of the bodies different systems …systems such as the;

  • Cardiovascular system, our heart, and blood
  • The Respiratory system, our lungs

As well as changes in our physical well being, vaying your movement will also offer you better outcomes for your mental wellbeing. Varying your movement can also help you keep your movement interesting and support you to keep it regular.

Lets consider some simples things that you can do to vary your movement.

Vary the ways you move

Participate in various forms of activity. and living.

There are so many choices, some examples are activities such as walking, running, swimming, cycling, dancing, yoga, exercises, pilates, bowls , golf and so much more. Your daily tasks that support living also offer a lot of movement benefits. Whether that is vacuming the floor, cleaning the shower, hangng out washing all these activities contribute to your daily movement.

Vary some of the components of your movement

There are a variety of changes you can make within an activity to alter the stresses on your body.

  • Do an activity for longer
  • Do an activity more often
  • Make it harder or easier –
    •  change the level of intensity by going faster. go slower
    • add in or change the level of resistance.

Vary where and whom you move with

If our movement is fun and we create ways to make moving interesting so we don’t get bored we are move likely to be consistent with our movement  Move in different spaces. Move outdoors,  in nature, on the beach, bike through the city, or swim in a pool. Keep in varied, keep it interesting.
